How to host an HTML file online in five minutes

You have one HTML file. Maybe an AI assistant wrote it, maybe you saved it from an editor. It opens fine when you double-click it, but the address in the browser starts with file://, and nobody else can open it. You need it on the internet, with a normal link.

Here is the quickest way to do that with aiput.site, and the few things to check first.

Check the file

  1. Name it index.html. That is the name web servers open when someone visits the address. landing.html or page (1).html will not be found.
  2. Put it in its own folder. For example my-page on your desktop. If the page uses images, styles or scripts from separate files, they go in the same folder, next to it or in subfolders.
  3. Check that the images are inside the folder. A page that shows a photo from your Downloads folder shows it only on your computer.

A single file with everything built in is fine too: many AI-made pages keep their styles and scripts inside the HTML.

Put it online

You need an AI agent that works with files on your computer — Claude Code, Codex or Cursor — and an aiput.site account.

  1. Sign in at aiput.site and choose a plan.
  2. Copy the message from your dashboard and paste it into the chat with your agent. The agent connects to aiput.site; restart it if it asks.
  3. Open the agent in your folder and say:

Publish this website.

The agent uploads the folder and gives you a link, with HTTPS already working. The whole thing takes a few minutes, and most of that is the first connection. Next time, it is one sentence.

Change it later

Edit the file, or ask the agent to change it, then say "update the website". The link stays the same, so everyone you sent it to sees the new version. The previous version is kept: if the new one is worse, ask the agent to roll back.

A few things to know

  • One page or many. The same way works for a whole site: pages, images, fonts. The main page just has to be index.html at the top of the folder.
  • Only website files. Videos, PDFs and documents are not published; embed videos from YouTube instead, and link to documents stored elsewhere.
  • No server code. A file that needs PHP or a database will not run. See what a static website is.

Made the file in a chat rather than an agent? These guides cover it step by step: from ChatGPT and from Claude.

Your AI agent made a website? Let it publish it. Plans start at €7 a month, and the first 14 days are free, no card needed.
