How to publish a website from Cursor

Cursor is a code editor with an AI agent built in. Plenty of people who are not developers use it to make websites: you describe the page, the agent writes the files into your project folder, and you look at the result in the browser. The one step Cursor does not take for you is putting the site online. With aiput.site its agent can do that too.

Before you start

  • the website is in a folder opened in Cursor, with index.html at the top of the folder;
  • you have an aiput.site account with a plan.

Connect Cursor once

  1. Open your aiput.site dashboard and copy the message from the Connect your AI coding assistant section.
  2. Paste it into the chat with Cursor's agent, and add one sentence: "Put the server in your global settings, not in this project."
  3. The agent adds aiput.site to Cursor's list of MCP servers, a file called mcp.json, with the address and your key.
  4. Cursor may need a restart or a new chat before the new tools appear. If the agent still cannot find them, open Cursor's settings, find the MCP section and check that aiput is listed and switched on.

You do this once. After that, any new chat in Cursor can publish.

Why global settings. Cursor can keep MCP servers either in your user settings or in a .cursor folder inside the project. In the project, your key would sit right next to the website files — one careless "publish the whole folder" away from being online for everyone to read.

Publish

In the agent chat:

Publish this website.

The agent creates a site, uploads the files and gives you the address. From then on, "update the website" publishes a new version to the same address.

Keep only the website in the folder

Projects tend to collect other things: notes, design mockups, a README.md, test data. aiput.site accepts website files only — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, icons and fonts. A publication with an unknown file type is refused as a whole, and the error names the file. Two ways to deal with it:

  • keep the site in its own subfolder, for example site/, and ask the agent to publish only that folder;
  • or ask the agent to leave the other files out of the upload.

If something goes wrong

  • The agent does not see the aiput tools. Start a new chat or restart Cursor, then check the MCP section in the settings.
  • The upload is refused. Ask the agent to read the error and fix it. It is usually an extra file or a missing index.html.

Using Claude Code or Codex as well? The setup is almost the same: how to publish a website made with Claude.
