Website builder or AI agent: which is better for a landing page?

For years, the answer to "how do I make a website without a developer" was a website builder: Wix, Squarespace, Tilda and many others. You pick a template, change the text and pictures with a mouse, and press Publish. Now there is a second answer: describe the site to an AI agent such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and it writes the site for you.

Both work. They suit different people and different sites.

How a builder works

  • You start from a template and edit it visually.
  • Hosting is included: the site lives inside the builder's platform.
  • Forms, payments, bookings, blogs and shops are ready-made blocks.
  • You pay for the plan that has the features you need.
  • The site stays in the builder. Moving to another platform usually means building it again.

How an AI agent works

  • You describe what you want in words, and the agent writes HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • The design is not limited to templates: anything you can describe, the agent can try to build.
  • Changes are requests in plain language: "make the header darker", "add a price table".
  • The result is ordinary files that belong to you. You can keep them, move them and open them in any editor.
  • Hosting is a separate step: the files still have to be put online. That is the step aiput.site takes care of — the agent publishes the site itself.

Where the builder wins

  • An online shop with a cart, stock and payments.
  • Content that changes daily and is edited by colleagues in a visual editor.
  • Built-in forms, bookings and member areas without extra services.
  • You like to see and move things with a mouse, rather than describe them.

Where the AI agent wins

  • One landing page, fast: from idea to a link in an evening.
  • A design that does not look like a template.
  • No lock-in: the files are yours.
  • Small changes in one sentence instead of a hunt through panels.
  • You already use Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and know how to talk to them.

The honest limits of the AI approach

  • The site is static. It has no server of its own: a contact form needs a form service to receive messages, and a full shop needs a shop platform.
  • You check the result. Agents make mistakes — a button that leads nowhere, a made-up detail in the text. Open the site on your phone and read it before you share the link.
  • Many editors are harder. If several people change the content every day, a builder or a content management system is more comfortable.

You can have both

Many people combine them: a builder for the shop, and a landing page made with an AI agent for a campaign, a new product or an event. One does not exclude the other.
